We have launched our Ulster-Scots poetry competition and encourage all schools to get involved.
The competition is open for all school pupils, from nursery onwards. Poems must incorporate some use of the Ulster-Scots language.
The categories for entries and prizes are:
- NI Pre-school & foundation stage / ROI Junior & Senior Infants - winner £50
- NI Key Stage 1 / ROI 1st & 2nd class - winner £50
- NI Key Stage 2 / ROI 3rd, 4th & 5th class - winner £50
- NI Key Stage 3 / ROI 6th class plus 1st & 2nd year - winner £50
- NI Key Stage 4 & Post 16 / ROI 3rd year + - winner £50
In addition, one overall winner will be selected from the category winners and will receive a trophy, with their school receiving an additional £250.
Full guidelines for the poetry competition can be found here, but please contact the Ulster-Scots Agency Education Team on education@ulsterscotsagency.org.uk if you have any queries and require further information.
To help prepare, why not complete a fun class activity asking pupils to complete the Ulster-Scots language games below. At the end of the games, pupils should be able to download their certificates and claim their Ulster-Scots language pin which we can present to your school.
